6 Months Old

Kate is 6 months old today - that just seems amazing to think about. It seems as though she just got here and we are half way to her first birthday. She is doing great and growing like crazy. She has no intrest in solid foods at the moment (and goodness knows, we've tried), but there is really no rush as long as she is growing. She is rolling over both ways, sleeping 12 hours at night, happy to watch her brother, sister and Phoebe dog, and loves when they talk to her and play with her. She is starting to wave and it is the cutest thing! She is wearing some 3 to 6 months clothes and is beginning to move up to the 6 to 9 month outfits and she is in size 2 diapers. We have started putting these cute, tiny clips in her hair (and yes, they are clipped to her hair, not stuck on!!). She is just as precious as she can be and we love making her laugh. We are also enjoying seeing her personality emerge each day. She is definitely teething, although there is no sign of teeth yet - she sticks everything she possibly can into her mouth. As always, we adore her and can't wait to see what she'll do next.

When all else fails.... Cheerios

Alas even Cheerios didn't bring her much 'cheer'.... What is with this little baby girl? My other two kids LOVED to eat! She had her maiden voyage with cheerios this morning and still would much, much rather just chew on her horsey! I guess she's just content with what she's got - it would be nice though to be able to make it through a meal without hearing her fuss and cry - which is where the cheerios come in handy.... or rather, they should come in handy... Nuh-uh (that's for you Papa), not with Kate... she just likes her milk.

No More Tonsils & Adnoids

Rachel had surgery this morning at Blount Memorial Hospital to remove her tonsils and adnoids. We knew she was bound to need them taken out since Noah had to have the same thing done - the kids have monstrous tonsils... We have no doubt Kate will be going through the same thing in a couple of years. Rachel has been rather curious and excited with the prospect of getting to eat all the ice cream, popsicles, jello, pudding, yogurt and yummy etc's that she can think up. We even did a trip to Wal-Mart where she got to pick out what ever she wanted to eat for after her surgery. Armed with Pink Blankie and little white puppy we set off this morning. The doctors let her have her blanket and dog through out the entire thing. She came through the surgery awesome. The only bad time she had was when they came to take her back to the surgery away from where Doug and I were. We were both crying as the anesthesiologist carried her back for surgery. He was a sweet guy who talked to her and asked if she wanted him to carry her or if she wanted to ride in her bed. To all of our surprise, she asked him to carry her. To preoccupy her before that I let her take pictures with my camera and also the nurses had her color pictures for them. They have a whole wall of pictures that kids have colored for them there. Rachel drew a picture of our family - all 6 of us (Phoebe included). She also drew a picture of me that I tucked away to bring home. She had no problems after surgery and ate a grape slushie, grape popsicle and drank some water. She was a little out of it and kept asking about the IV in her hand and also why were we there? I am amazed that she is doing so well. We have camped out on the couch most of the day watching cartoons and she is eating it up. She has been eating up as much as she can - 3 cups of jello and 2 pudding cups and lots to drink. I remember begging Noah to drink and eat after his surgery, so this is a very good thing. I just hope she continues to do as well as she has done so far. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers from everyone - They are very much appreciated!

Homework

Noah is doing an awesome job with his school work as a first grader. While he doesn't have as much homework here as he did down in Georgia, he is supposed to read everyday. In our house that is easy to do - we read bedtime books every night. When Noah gets home he knows that even if he doesn't have typical homework, there is always a book tucked into his bag to read and record into his Daily Reading Folder. I am so glad he seems to enjoy reading so much. Rachel is always close at hand and waiting for him to be finished with his homework so that she can play with him. She loves to do her 'homework' too and is getting better and better at writing her name. =)

It's been a while, but we took a trip to Dollywood with Mamaw and the Chris family with all the kiddies and I need to get these pictures on here! It was a lot of fun to see all the kids have so much fun together. I don't think Chris' kids had ever been and they were so excited to experience everything. Our kids of course hadn't done half of the rides there yet, so there was a lot of new things for them to do too. It was really hot - thank goodness for the sprinkers, misters, and water rides. Good times!

After trying rice, oatmeal and finally just plain old baby bananas we have decided to give it some time before we try any more food for our little Miss Kate. She sincerely hates any type of solid food and will turn her head away no matter what we try to get her to eat. We figure we'll give her a few more weeks and try it again.
