A Day At Metcalf Bottoms

The rock wall that was on the road to the schoolhouse and the steps that led up to my grandmother's house.
I love going to the mountains. It's home. It's just right. It's just... the best. Doug feels this way about the ocean, so he understands how I feel. Mom, Amie, Chris, Christina and all the kids and I took a trip up to Metcalf Bottoms for a picnic on Saturday. It was wonderful. The weather couldn't have been any more perfect. The kids played in the river and had fun together. Being kids. Outside. We ate and relaxed and shared our day. After everyone was full, we headed out on the short hike to the Little Greenbrier Schoolhouse. My Mamaw went to school there and lived along the trail to the school house. It was fun to show the kids where her childhood home had stood and where she had attended school and how she had swam and played in the very river they had. So much history and heritage in these mountains for us. I can hear my Mamaw now... telling her stories...
